Brief
History: Ghana is a country along the West African coast with a
population of approximately 20 million people. Ghana is home of the
famous Kente Cloth and Adinkra Symbols. Incidentally, the heading is
supported by two Adinkra symbols, which mean; “You can always go back
home.” Ghana, previously known as the Gold Coast, was a prominent
player in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Ghana is also a leading world
producer of gold and cocoa. Ghana makes some of the best tasting
chocolate in the world. The weather averages between 80 degrees to 98
degrees Fahrenheit (27 – 37 Degrees Celsius).

February 20, Wednesday:
Leave Atlanta or Washington DC for Accra, Ghana.
February 21, Thursday:
Arrive in Accra and check into your hotel to relax.

22, Friday: Group visits Diamond House. This is to give visitors a
chance to see the finest of custom jewelry in Ghana and if interested,
have some made. Group visits the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum (First
President of Ghana) and WEB DuBois Center. Group departs for the journey
to Kumasi.
February 23,
Saturday: Group travels to Kumasi to witness the Akwasidae Festival.
This festival is to honor the ancestors and the Ashanti King. It is a
very ornate durbar and ceremony.

February 24,
Sunday: Akwasidae Festival in Kumasi. After festival, group returns
to Accra in the evening.
February 25, Monday: Group spends the day
sightseeing in Accra. Places of interest:
1.
University of Ghana
2.
Arts Center.
3.
Woodin Stores.
4.
Ablade Glover Art Center
5.
Artists’ Alliance.
February 26, Tuesday: Group spends a day
in Accra with visits to a chocolate factory in Tema and a Kente Weaving
Stand. In the afternoon, group travels to Odumase Bead Factory to
observe the bead making process. Evening Worship Service at local
churches, for those interested.
February 27,
Wednesday: After breakfast, group departs for Elmina Castle.
Elmina is one of earliest castles built outside of Europe and would
become a major conduit for the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
Visitors will see the slave dungeons and the “Door of No
Return.” Group spends the night at Elmina Beach Resort in Elmina.

Kakum National Park
February
28, Thursday: Depart for Kakum National Park. The Park is a Reserve,
which protects plant and animal treasures of the African Rain Forest.
There is also a Canopy Walkway, Africa’s only rainforest walkway. It
is made up of 350 meter (1155ft) long suspended bridges which reach the
height of 30 meters (99 ft) above the forest floor.
February 29, Friday: Relaxing day at Osekan
Beach on final day in Ghana.

March 1, Saturday: Back in the US.

Guests will stay at hotels that have air
condition, bath and toilets in rooms and security on premises.
Transportation will be in an air-conditioned
vehicle and an English-speaking tour guide will accompany visitors on
all outings.

Money can be exchanged at numerous Forex
Bureaus.
Good clean bottled water is easily available.
